RealityCapture is a perfect solution for your mapping projects. You can create infinite number of ortho-projections and maps. For each map, area and volume measurements are automatically calculated. Moreover, you can use several options how to geo-reference your map and with control point experience, you are able to create hundreds of measurements for ground control points within minutes.

Maps/DSM
It has never been so easy to create a map. Just define an area, select a coordinate system and press a button. Your map will be stored in the project and you will be able to export it anytime. You can export your map in the form of a “True Orthographic Photograph” or a “Digital Surface Model” into:
- Image file formats like JPG, PNG, TIF etc., including the world file.
- Google earth: KML/KMZ
- GIS software file format: GeoTiff
Arbitrary orthographic projections
You are not limited just to maps with your projects. You can create arbitrary orthographic projections and cross-sections. You can define the projection plane, size and rotation of the projection area and get the resolution you need. All ortho-projections are saved and can be exported as image, altitude or depth layer. Scale and Coordinate System Preservation
There are different ways how to preserve coordinate system across different scans with RealityCapture. It all depends on your camera setup.
XMP: Fixed-camera setup
If you are sure that your camera setup is fixed, then you can use pre-calibration with XMP files. By fixed we mean that your supporting structure is so strong that each camera position and orientation will remain stable (+-0.01mm and +-0.01 degrees) across different scans. Furthermore, your internal camera parameters will remain fixed, as well (no autofocus, no image stabilization, etc.). If you are not absolutely sure about the precision, you can still use XMP files set to draft mode and RealityCapture will fine tune camera poses and calibration.
Flight log: Bending-camera setup
If your camera position and orientation remain almost stable, then you can use the so-called “flight-log workflow”. You can align each scan separately, import a flight log file with camera positions and update the created component. It will just compute a rigid transformation (translation, rotation, scale) so that the original alignment fits best the pre-defined positions imported from the flight-log file. With this workflow, you do not need to place markers into your scene.
Markers: Bending-camera setup
You can also use the well-known way of coordinate system preservation, which is placing radial or any other type of markers into the scene. RealityCapture offers the possibility to generate the coded markers and detect them automatically with a Detect Markers Tool. Using this tool significantly reduces time of points’ identification and helps you get correct alignment in couple of minutes.

Mixing it all together
“Are the laser scans and images reconstructed separately, and then just merged together”? No, they are not. Our advanced proprietary algorithms allow simultaneous registration of all inputs in one step – terrestrial laser scans – ground level photos – drone imagery. This allows creation of seamless point clouds, 3D meshes and ortho projection with the superior accuracy and detail.
Not just mixing 2 point clouds but fully involving all inputs in camera and laser scan pose estimation.
Visibility-consistent models
Since RealityCapture combines both laser scans and images in the alignment step, you are able to create seamless and consistent mesh. The resulting mesh is simply the best what you can get from laser and photogrammetry. It is metrologically correct, since RealityCapture does not average laser samples and photogrammetry simply fill holes to add detail where the laser scans are sparse.
